Where to Stay in Bali
Compared with many other destinations, accommodation in Bali offers incredible value for money. Although the newer ultra-luxury properties may stretch the budget, there are many internationally recognised five-star hotels and resorts available for a fraction of the cost of their Australian stablemates.
The choice then comes down to two factors: hotels and resorts with a wealth of facilities or the privacy of a villa environment; and what part of Bali suits your tastes? Southern Bali has many facets. The sweep of west-coast destinations includes Kuta, party central for generations of travellers and, extending north and increasingly upmarket, Legian and Seminyak. South of the airport is Jimbaran with its beachside seafood restaurants.
Along the south-eastern coast is Nusa Dua with its large-scale resorts and Sanur, quieter and more European in feel. Ubud is the spiritual hub of Bali, a place of yoga and alternative therapies, villas set amid peaceful rice paddies, deep gorges, rushing rivers, and the immutable greenery of ancient rainforest.
Bali’s vast range of accommodation options, at every price point, ensures that there truly is something for everybody. (Note that there is a 10 per cent government tax and 11 per cent service charge added to all hotel and food and beverage bills.)
