Travel to Bali
Book your flights to Bali today
Being a favourite holiday destination for many Australians, it's no surprise that flying to Bali is so easy. Direct flights to Bali are available from most Australian capital cities, plus Cairns. Airlines include Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Garuda Indonesia, Tigerair and AirAsia X. Connecting flights are offered with Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways International.
Flights arrive into Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport, a 10-minute taxi ride from the popular tourist area of Kuta at the southern end of the island. A 30-day Visa on Arrival (VoA) must be obtained prior to customs with a fee payable at the desk in USD or AUD. Garuda Indonesia can process a VoA on select flights from Australia, which can save considerable queuing time on arrival.
Average flight time: About 6.5 hours from Sydney, 6 hours from Brisbane and 3.5 hours from Perth.
Daily flights from: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin with connections from most cities.
Major airlines: Garuda Indonesia, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tigerair and AirAsia X with connections available with Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways International and Malaysia Airlines.

Check out our tours of beautiful Bali
A small town with a big tourism industry, there's more to Bali than its beautiful beaches, buzzing nightlife and bargain shopping. Join a tour in Bali and explore beyond the main drag with a surf lesson, mountain bike trek or get up close and personal with some cheeky primates.
Hire a car on your Bali holiday
As it is a fairly large island, one of the best ways to see more of Bali is by hiring a car. Often if you rent a car with a driver they can act as an informal tour guide with local knowledge about the best sights, restaurants and shopping around.
With its internationally famous resorts and air of unabashed hedonism, Bali may seem like the perfect tourist destination, but there’s another world out there further afield in Indonesia. A quick flight away is Jakarta, the capital, the epitome of a thriving Asian metropolis. Or wander back through the centuries at Yogyakarta, spiritual heart of central Java and location of two UNESCO World Heritage sites – Borobudur and Prambanan.
Each of the three Gili islands – accessed from southern Bali via fast boat – has its own distinct personality. Gili Trawangan is the party island with a wide range of accommodation, bars and restaurants. Gili Air is quieter and more relaxed, while Gili Meno is the least populated. Attractions include abundant marine life, snorkelling and diving.
Also easily accessible from southern Bali via fast boat, Nusa Lembongan has a wide range of hotels and villas, restaurants and bars. Travel to nearby Nusa Penida to dive or snorkel with manta rays and sunfish and be astounded by the diversity of sea life.
The Indonesian section of Borneo (the world’s third-largest island) is well worth the journey. The wildlife, including several endangered species, is amazing as are the wild, lush landscapes. Orang-utans can be experienced in such areas as the Nyaru Menteng rehabilitation centre in central Kalimantan and the more remote Tanjung Puting National Park.
