Denver, Colorado's capital, sits exactly 1 mile above sea level at the edge of the Great Plains with a Rocky Mountain backdrop. You'll find this city tips its hat to its Wild West and mining past but its arts scene and outdoor festivals are gathering pace. There's a rich pioneer history here, more than 200 parks (in which to enjoy the 300 days of sunshine per year) and neighbourhoods themselves can be an attraction too. Of course, there's the enticing mountains less than 20 kilometres to the west.
There's a major festival or event on during each month of the year and late spring and early autumn are great outdoors seasons. If you're a sports fan, Denver has major teams in football, hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse and even rugby to keep you entertained, whenever you arrive.
