The complex was inspired by and is named after the Italian resort of Bellagio on Lake Como. When construction finished, it was reportedly the most expensive hotel ever built at US$1.6 billion. Today the hotel employs around 10,000 people and has won numerous awards including the Qantas Frequent Flyer Favourite Hotel, AAA Five Diamond Award and was listed as one of Forbes Traveller Magazine World's 400 Best Hotels.

In many respects the Bellagio complex serves as a backdrop to the mesmerising water feature located in front. The dancing water fountain synchronised to music is located within a 3.6 hectare man-made lake and features more than 1,200 nozzles and 4,500 lights. The choice of music is quite eclectic covering the appropriate, Hey, Big Spender to My Heart Will Go On. Other classics include Viva Las Vegas and Luck Be a Lady.

Once you've appreciated the glorious water display, consider enjoy the mesmerising Cirque du Soleil, who are the in-house company based in the Bellagio.
