Explore the flavours of Chinatown

Just minutes from the hotel, Melbourne's Chinatown district is historically significant as the oldest continuously inhabited Chinese settlement in the western world, dating back to the Victorian gold rush. Today, it's best known to tourists for its multitude of restaurants selling great food at budget prices, including traditional and modern favourites from all over Asia.

Walking around downtown Melbourne, you can't miss Chinatown with its decorative gates guarded by lion statues. You’ll find most of the restaurants down Little Bourke Street, alongside traditional temples and Chinese supermarkets, where you can stock up on rare ingredients.

Do time in Old Melbourne Gaol

Melbourne's original prison is today an award-winning tourist attraction in Victoria and is only five minutes from the hotel. The original building has been preserved, so you can get an authentic idea of what life was like for lawbreakers of the past and see where some of Australia's most infamous characters spent their time prior to release or execution.

You can choose between several lively tours that explore different aspects of the Old Gaol, which spans three floors and includes the neighbouring watch house. Take a day tour with the charge sergeant, brave a night tour with the hangman or learn the prison's urban legends and unexplained mysteries on a ghost tour.
