Accommodation In Iceland
Recreation in Reykjavik
The southern region of Iceland is the most populated part of the country and home to the capital city of Reykjavik. This capital city is the starting point for the Golden Circle, which takes you on a tour of some of the south's most impressive natural features including Thingvellir National Park, the waterfall Gullfoss and the geysirs of Haukadalur.
When exploring the south, Reykjavik provides a great base from which to plan your daily excursions. The Radisson offers multiple locations in the city, many of which deliver 4-star comfort. There are also a number of boutiques to choose from that offer great service and facilities. This includes the Hotel Holt and the Borg Hotel.
Akureyri: the unofficial capital of the north
Lava flows have shaped a lot of the northern region, creating dramatically beautiful scenery punctuated by wild rivers and waterfalls, bubbling mud pots and volcanic craters. Skiing, hiking, horse riding, whale watching, nature baths and bird watching are all readily available throughout this region. In the midst of it all, charming Scandinavian-inspired cities provide a perfect location for enjoying the mystical northern lights.
Quality lodging is not hard to find in the city of Akureyri, as there is an abundance of hotels and local inns. The Icelandair Hotel Akureyi is a comfortable option, or choose from one of the local guest houses to experience Icelandic hospitality at its best.
Finding the fjords
The fjords of Iceland are generously dispersed in the east and the west, but it is the east that draws the most travellers. Home to Skaftafell National Park, it is a stunning mixture of glaciers, rugged mountains, heath meadows and lush forest. You may want to visit the Svartifoss and Hundafoss waterfalls, or bask in the beauty of the Kviarjokull glacial lagoon.
The cities of Hofn and Egilsstadir offer the most selection when it comes to accommodation. While more modest than the hotels offered in larger cities, both feature a number of country hotels and local guest houses with quality service and comfortable rooms.
