Morning sun at Mount Warning

Just south of the Gold Coast in the Tweed Heads Hinterland lies magnificent Mount Warning. It’s the largest extinct shield volcano in the Southern Hemisphere, and the first place on mainland Australia to be touched by the rising sun.

Named Wollumbin (meaning ‘cloud catcher’) by the local Bundjalung people, Mount Warning is a must-see for adventure travellers and nature lovers alike. Subtropical and temperate climate zones overlap here, allowing lush rainforest to grow by natural streams and rolling green fields. The hike to the summit takes approximately four hours return. Panoramic views over the Tweed Valley and coastline are well worth the climb.
