Accommodation in Bratislava
Back to the Medieval times
At the centre of Bratislava lies a Medieval heart, pulsating with the history and culture of this Slovakian capital. It only take about an hour to move from one side to the other, which makes its narrow cobbled streets perfect for walking. Marvel at the Baroque architecture, tour the Bratislava Castle and admire the Art Nouveau splendour of St Elizabeth's.
A number of shops, restaurants and hotels can be found throughout Old Town, making it easy to set up base and explore at your leisure. Hotels such as the Crown Plaza are conveniently situated within this historic quarter, but why not consider a stay at a local inn or B&B to experience genuine Slovakian hospitality. There are a few within Old Town that offer comfortable rooms and fantastic value for money.
A taste of the everyday
Outside of its charming Old Town, Bratislava is a great city for getting out to discover the local culture. The promenade along the Danube River sees locals and travellers mingling amidst the grassy shores, or pop into the Eurovea shopping centre. There is a vibrant cafe scene through the city centre along with many restaurants for a taste of traditional fare.
As the city is so compact and easy to navigate, it's hard to find a hotel that isn't within close proximity to many of the best attractions. What's better is the fact that most of the hotels offer extremely reasonable rates. Boutiques such as the Tulip House and Arcadia Hotel provide 5-star service, while big names like Sheraton, Double Tree and Best Western offer comfort and convenience.
On the fringes
If you feel you've explored every last inch of the city, you can certainly venture beyond its borders to discover some of the region's gems. One of the more popular sites just outside of Bratislava is the Devin Castle. These historic ruins date back to the 15th-century with pathways to access to the whole of the castle's grounds as well as gardens and outbuildings.
Bunk up near the castle to ensure you have ample time to explore its expanse. The Hotel Hrada Brana is the closest option. It is, in fact, only 50 metres away from the castle. Beautiful views of both the ruins and the Danube River are available from most rooms.
